Anyone interested in learning the art form kyokushin along with other martial arts will get a chance to do so at the new Hagatna Mixed Martial Arts Center. The gym is located on the 2nd floor of the House of Fabrics Building next to MTB Outfitters on the corner of Padre Palomo St. and Soledad Avenue.

The grand opening takes place this Saturday at 12:00 noon with demonstrations and belt testing taking place. Kyokushin was founded on Guam in 1964 by shihan Joe Tedtaotao and not only teaches fighting techniques but also respect, humility and non-violence.

Tony Rodriguez says, "Everything about Kyokushin is about discipline, courtesy and respect towards others. We really focus on helping people become better citizens and better people not here just to fight. It's full-contact karate, but it's not the focal point, so in a sense kyokushin is a martial art that doesn't focus on just the psychical aspect but also the spiritual aspect, as well."
