U of O Alumni Writes New Book on the Food of Guam

Where in the world is Guam? What in the world do they eat there? Wouldn't you love to have some Guam fiesta food? Paula Quinene, a U of O Alumni and a native Chamorrita, published a Guam cookbook, A Taste of Guam!

(HOLLY SPRINGS N.C.) - A Taste of Guam is brimming with Guam's infamous fiesta food. Here is what people are saying about the foods cooked on this tiny island in the Pacific:

"The food was an amazing combo of the island culture: Guamanian / Chamorro, Spanish, and Filipino food. There was bisteak - some sort of marinated, thinly sliced steak; kelaguen-of all sorts of meats, chicken, beef & spam being my favorites (kelaguen was cool because we got to help shred the coconut); red rice-always; lumpia-tiny little spring roll-esque fried bits of heaven."

"The one thing that stood out the most for me was the "FIESTAS." The word itself is like a magnet. It attracts people from all over the island to enjoy authentic Chamorro dishes. These were the biggest celebrations all over the island for birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions. There was enough food to last for days including a pig. My favorite food besides daigo is coconut candy."
